Retention Shooting: Deputy Shoots Attacker At Traffic Stop

Earlier this month I published a list of articles on shooting from a retention position. The video below shows a sheriff's deputy in Georgia that had to shoot from a retention position after a criminal attacked the deputy, wrapping his arms around the deputy and forcing the deputy's head back. You can find a news account of the confrontation here ("Georgia cops release dashcam video of the moment officer shoots Leonard Allan Cure dead in roadside brawl after tasering him during traffic stop: Victim had previously spent 16 years in jail on wrongful robbery conviction"--Daily Mail). Although the dashcam video below is long, the relevant portion is all in the first 4-1/2 minutes, including the minute or so between the officer turning on his lights to when the criminal finally pulled over. The actual physical fight starts at about the 3:20 mark and the taxpayer relief shot occurs at about the 3:50 mark.

  1. When you choke a cop and try to push him into traffic, you've reached the top ratio of FA to FO.

    1. A good thing that cop was in good physical shape--the criminal looked like he had taken full advantage of the prison weight room while incarcerated.
