VIDEO: Filing and Using Sandbags

This video demonstrates how to fill and emplace sandbags to build a field fortification/cover, but would also apply to filling bags to stop floodwaters.

I've only ever filled sandbags for flood control, and we had a big pile of sand delivered by the city or county (I can't remember which) to a lot about 200 yards from where the sandbags would be stacked. It works much faster to have two people filling a bag (one to hold open the bag and keep it from falling over) and another to fill the bag. The bag should then be handed off to a third person to carry to where the sandbags go or, as was in our case, load the back of a truck taking the sandbags to where they were going to be used.

The funny part of the whole thing was that we were volunteers filling sandbags for a neighborhood that was at least a couple miles from where any of us lived, but no one that lived in the area in danger of flooding came out to help. There were a couple teenagers that watched the whole thing and probably lived in the area, but neither offered to help. And after the flood danger ended and it was time to remove the bags, there was no neighborhood assistance, either.
