The United States, Denmark, and Greenland signed a permanent agreement Friday that hands Washington lasting military rights across the island while permanently shutting out China, Russia, and every other non-NATO adversary. The deal gives the U.S. permanent access, basing, and overflight rights in Greenland, along with the authority to build new military installations there whenever it decides it needs to, according to a senior U.S. official who briefed Fox News Digital.
This will make it easier for the United States to maintain dominance over the North Atlantic.
Color me skeptical. The wording keeps showing up as "agreement" not treaty. If Congress doesn't sign it doesn't hold water. Also our mil just got thrashed and run out of the mid east. We used to have military bases in Greenland. Down to one. Couldn't maintain them in the arctic conditions. Maybe the tech has changed.
ReplyDeleteBottom line, it defends the EU against Russia. Threat analysis aside why should we care or spend money on it?
It also defends our Eastern seaboard as well as important shipping lanes. It also limits China's options on moving ships through the Arctic to the North Atlantic.
