The host focuses on a line from one of Tolkien's unfinished tales describing the men of Númenor using hollow steel bows. Steel bows have occasionally been tried through history (as late, apparently, as the early 20th Century) but there are reasons they have never caught on including their propensity to break, which is discussed in the first part of the video. The rest of the video tests arrows roughly the size described in the text against soft steel armor (to stand in for the iron armor used by Orcs).
