The Daily Mail reports that on August 21, 2023, a Chinese Type 93 attack submarine became entangled in "a chain and anchor obstacle used by the Chinese Navy to trap US and allied submarines." The incident apparently caused a systems failure, including a breakdown of the onboard oxygen system, which poisoned the crew, killing 55, including the captain and 21 other officers.
