Illegals Are Big Users of SNAP and Other Benefits

The Trump Administration, under orders from two federal courts, to use "about $6 billion worth of contingency funds intended for emergencies such as hurricanes and other natural disasters that could spark an urgent need for food assistance" to partially fund SNAP benefits for November. The government spends about $8 billion per month on SNAP, so the benefits will be less than normal. Also, "[i]n addition to adjusting eligibility and benefit issuance files to accommodate the reduction, States must notify all SNAP households of the reduction, as well as handle any requests for fair hearings from SNAP households related to the reduction."

In related news, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins revealed yesterday that earlier this year, "we told every state to send us their SNAP data so we could make sure illegal immigrants aren’t getting benefits meant for American families. 29 states stepped up. 21 blue states refused — and two SUED US FOR ASKING!" Why would they do that?  Because, according to the Center for Immigration Studies' 2023 analysis of government data, "59% of households headed up by an illegal are on one or more welfare programs, whether it's cash, food assistance, Medicaid, or housing."
