From the Daily Mail: "Outrage as Amazon Rainforest is cleared of 100,000 trees to make way for climate summit." The trees are being cleared in order to build a multi-lane highway to make it easier for 50,000 world leaders, climate change activists, journalists, and other high-profile guests to travel by car to the conference in Belém, Brazil. Other projects for the conference, according to the article, include new hotels, the expansion of a local airport, and the redevelopment of the city's port for cruise ships.
Yeah, but "tourism" and "graft" just don't have the same ring.
