Although not official, certain unnamed distributors and retailers say they have been informed by Glock that the company will be discontinuing all models of Glock pistols other than the slim line models (e.g., 42, 43, 43X, 48) and will stop shipping them as of November 30. The discontinued versions will be replaced with what the video below calls a "V model". The video producer, Mr. Guns 'n' Gear, speculates that it is because of the lawsuits brought against Glock by various states claiming that the standard Glock pistols are too easily converted to full auto which the new version will address. I will note, however, that Glock has been winnowing down the number of models they offer over the past couple of years anyway, as you can see by comparing their current catalogue against their discontinued models.

Caving to the whims of the anti-gunners is never a good long-term strategy.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly didn’t work out for S&W back in the ‘90s
DeleteBut, surely the people who don't buy your product are the real market pressure? ;)
DeleteMight this be an ode to restructuring the product line to correct real or perceived deficiencies of existing models, perhaps allowing introduction of completely new products?
ReplyDeleteBased on what is being reported about Glock's patent filings, it appears that they are planning on introducing a new line soon anyway offering a removable fire control unit such as we see with the Sig 320 or the Ruger RXM. But this certainly gives them an excuse to stop production of the Gen 3 models.
