John Wilder and I both recently read Peter Turchin's book, End Time: Elites, Counter-Elites And The Path Of Political Disintegration. We even started it about the same time. I'm apparently a faster reader, though, because I finished my review back in September but he only just posted his review. In two parts (show off!).
- "The Funniest (And Most Enlightening Book Review You’ll Read This Year) End Times by Peter Turchin, Part 1"
- "End Times Review, Part 2 – Defining the Dragon"
But John's review is better written and in a more humorous manner, so even if you already read my review, I would suggest taking the time for John's as well.
Every once in a while you come across a book that distills certain truths in such a way that it provides a profound deeper understanding of the world and how it works. A book that generates a legitimate "ah ha" moment. I have come across two books in the past several years that I have found fit this category: Turchin's End Times (much more than his prior book, Ages of Discord); and Anonymous Conservative's The Evolutionary Psychology Behind Politics: How Conservatism and Liberalism Evolved Within Humans.
Thank you! I'm concluding it with tomorrow's post, which I think is the real kicker. End Times, indeed. (And now I'll read yours!)
