Judge Blocks Federal Employee Buyout Plan

Reuters reports that "US judge temporarily blocks Trump buyout offer for government workers" even though 60,000 have purportedly accepted the offer. This is in response to a lawsuit brought by labor unions representing federal workers. Per the article, concerns over the buyout include that current funding is only authorized through March 14, but the offers promise payments to October. Thus there is no guarantee that full payments would be made. One unnamed GSA employee voiced his hope that the judge would block the whole resignation program. The judge has scheduled hearings for Monday to determine whether to extend the ban.

Perhaps the fight against the buy-out program, and the wide spread objections to DOGE reviewing spending of the various federal agencies and departments, will see Trump stymied by the courts and/or Congress. But even that could be a win because it would clearly demonstrate that the federal government is incapable of reform. Something that Trump could easily use as a rallying cry for changes to the law.

  1. OK then. You're fired. No comp. Judges orders.
Stupid. All Trump has to do is a lump sum payment before March. Isn't that how buyouts work anyway?

    1. If the buyouts are blocked, that (the out-right firings) will be how it will have to be.

  2. And this is why they don't pass a budget.

    1. I thought it was so the Democrats would have constant opportunities to blackmail the country into funding their pet projects, or face a government shutdown. This time, however, the Dems might have outsmarted themselves as a government shut down would be the perfect time to get rid of the bulk of the bureaucracy. Perhaps the Dems will rediscover the joys of passing a budget.
