Amazon Prime will soon be releasing a television series called House of David which will supposedly be about the life of the ancient Israelite King David with whom we are familiar from the Bible. But as you also know, Hollywood has been active in replacing red-haired historical figures and famous characters with black or brown actors. A couple of the more famous examples of this was the substitution of the white, red-headed character, Arial, from the animated film The Little Mermaid with a black actress for the live action remake; and the casting of a black woman for the role of Cleopatra in the 2023 Netflix docudrama, Queen Cleopatra.
But if the video below is correct, the same is being done to King David in the House of David series. The series has cast Michael Iskander to play the role of David, with Iskander having a dark complexion and, it appears, black hair and very dark eyes. He notes that David is described in the Bible has having "beautiful" or "bright" eyes which he indicates is a descriptor for blue or blue-green eyes (1 Samuel 16:12). David is also described as having a "ruddy" complexion denoting light skin tones (1 Sam 17:42). And he has been pictured in mosaics with curly red hair.
The producer of the video also maintains that other biblical figures had light skin, blue or green eyes, and red or blond hair. I can't address the archeological and genetic evidence, or the passages from the Dead Sea Scrolls that are also referenced. But it matches with other videos I've watched concerning the Bronze Age peoples of Europe, the Levant, and the Asian Steppes. It is certainly an interesting theory.
Some Egyptian rulers had "broadly Western European" DNA.
ReplyDeleteI believe there was a pharaoh mummy found with a red beard. I will have to research this.
