Several news sources are reporting on the arrest of Rosalina Luna Vargas, in Pasadena, California. Vargas, apparently an illegal alien, was walking with her 20 year old and 17 year old sons--both purportedly born in the U.S.--when ICE agents attempted to detain her. "Vargas reportedly broke free from the agents and ran into the courtyard of the nearby Del Mar Park Assisted Living Facility, followed closely by her children. The agents pursued, but the children intervened, attempting to physically shield their mother." The employees at the assisted living facility would not allow the ICE agents to enter without a warrant, and someone even called police to report a "kidnapping". Vargas was later apprehended when agents returned with a warrant.
A protest was held Monday evening "with organizers leading the crowd in a Spanish-language version of 'This Land Is Your Land,' ..." Because, of course.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist her, which is odd because I thought they had policies against fundraising for criminals involved in violent crimes or other harmful activities. Keep in mind that ICE is concentrating on rounding up criminals (meaning that they have committed crimes beyond illegally entering the country) which at least raises the presumption that Vargas had engaged in some other crimes. GoFundMe's enforcement of its policy must depend on whether they agree with the crime or not.
The real lesson from all of this is how the media distorts and twists facts to fit a preferred agenda or narrative. Since the father of lies is Satan, I guess we know what that makes the media.
Articles:
- "Distressing video shows ICE agents seize California mother while her children cling to her arms"--Daily Mail. They make it sound as though she had two young kids clutching at her in terror when it was actually an older teen and a 20 year old interfering with federal agents carrying out their duties. And she's not a "California mother," but a mother that happened to be in California.
- "Immigration agents detain mother in front of her children in Pasadena, video shows"--ABC7. Another headline trying to make it seem she had little kids.
- "ICE Agents Arrest Mother of Two at Assisted Living Facility"--Newsweek. Again, why is it relevant whether she was a mother? Because it makes the illegal alien seem more sympathetic.
- "Protesters Rally in Pasadena After Mother of Two Detained by ICE"--Pasadena Now. More of the "mother" nonsense. Surely there is some other apt description of the woman. Perhaps "invasive alien"?
They could have taken her without the warrant. If a LEO sees her escape onto private property, they can follow. Period.
ReplyDeleteThe application of the "hot pursuit" doctrine is apparently more complicated in immigration cases because DHS policy limits the ability of immigration officers to arrest or question people in "protected areas" which includes health care facilities.
