It begins with a good shot of how fast a flash flood can happen, with a wall of water racing down an existing river. This is why it is a good idea to have your important documents in a single location or container so you can grab and go. The fact that you may only have minutes to flee your home is the reason for a grab-and-go 72-hour kit. Perhaps it won't be a flood in your area: it may be brush fires, a chemical spill or release of toxic gasses, or some other disaster.
