Getting Started In Muzzle Loading Firearms

Another "how to get started" video. This one on muzzle loading black powder firearms. The author assumes that you will be starting with a traditional looking muzzle loading rifle, and recommends that you start with a percussion system rather than a flintlock, even though he prefers the flintlock--this is just because it makes it simpler and easier to get started.

Why try them? A few common reasons are:

  1. Because federal law does not consider muzzle loading black powder firearms to be "firearms" (including the "muzzle loading" revolvers) it is easier to purchase them in most jurisdictions in the United States.
  2. Many states have special or extended seasons for muzzle loaders, so for hunters it gives an extra chance at hunting.
  3. Enjoyment of a time era such as the Old West, Civil War, fur trappers and frontiersman, Revolutionary War, etc.
  4. Some people simply enjoy the older and simpler technology and slower pace involved with shooting such weapons.
  5. Some preppers get involved with them because they fear a total collapse of civilization that somehow results in an almost complete loss of technology and trade where black powder may be the only type of gun powder that can be manufactured.

Lucky Shot

I finally got a chance to try out the Shield Arms red dot sight that I mounted on my Glock 43x MOS. I think I'll keep it.
