It seems that most anyone that has had to carry and use a rifle in combat feels that the M7 is a mistake because it is too big, too heavy, has too much recoil, but reduces the number of rounds that a soldier will be able to carry. The host of this video is no different.
Briefly, the author believes that the U.S. should either keep the 5.56 and develop an armor piercing round that will penetrate Russian and Chinese body armor, or adopt the Russian 5.45x39mm round ... because the Russians developed a 5.45 round for use by their internal security forces that can penetrate the Russian military body armor, which we could copy.
As for the rifle, the host really likes the RM277 that General Dynamics had tendered to compete against Sig's rifle, but he also realizes that there is no way that the Army would adopt something as radical as a bullpup rifle. Thus, his pick would be the CZ Bren 2 or 3 which have a traditional layout, and have seen service in Ukraine and is battle proven.
He also believes that the rifle should have its automatic fire rate reduced to around 600 RPM to make it more controllable in full auto.
