Chicago: At Least 55 Shot, 6 Dead, Over July 4 Weekend

Breitbart reports that in the Democrat utopia of Chicago, where gun control reigns supreme, "[a]t least 55 people were shot, six of them fatally, during Fourth of July weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago." The article also notes that "[t]here have been 203 homicides in Chicago in 2025[.]" This even as murder rates, overall, appear to be falling dramatically across the nation according to NPR. The latter article indicates that after a surge in violence in 2020 and 2021, murders have been decline, including a declined 14% across the U.S. in 2024, with even larger declines expected for this year. "In Detroit, for instance, city officials say the number of homicides is at its lowest since 1965, and Police Chief Todd Bettison says that has led to a huge difference for his officers," the article relates.

    While police credit the decline to better policing, "experts" suggest that it is because local governments are back to pre-pandemic levels of spending on social services. I wonder if it is a combination of many Democrat run cities no longer reporting crime statistics, and Republican states passing "constitutional carry" laws.
