John explains in a bit more detail why he believes we are at 8 ("Common violence that is generally deemed by governmental authorities as justified based on ideology") rather than some lower number. He notes, for instance, that:
If anyone doesn’t think that organized violence is occurring regularly, they need to revisit their news sources. Cities, even in Red States, are being run not by cops, not by commissions, and not by mayors. Those cities are being run by district attorneys that are not prosecuting criminals and are sanctioning the violence.
He notes earlier that a former CIA director had said that a certain Republican Senator should be removed from the human race. If you or I had made a similar threat, we would be visited by federal agents. But I'm sure this former CIA director will never see anyone investigate him for his terrorist threat.
And to get a better handle on how threats and violence has been sanctioned by the state, just look at the reactions from the Jewish community now that they are being treated like conservative white men. This is how the Federalist Society, white men generally, the Tea Party, Trump supporters, anyone that opposed abortion, and so on, have been treated for decades. And no one in the media or government cared. Instead, they joined in mocking the victims. Now they care, now that it is happening to a group they care about.

ReplyDeleteI think odds are even on whether they can regain control of the monster they created. When you have sanctioned an ideology based on envy there is a high probability of blow back.
