The Future of Television Is Clear

I like being reminded (in positive ways) that we live in the 21st Century. The Daily Mail reports that "LG and Samsung have announced plans to launch fully transparent televisions in what could be the next jump in TV tech," with LG showing off a model earlier this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Billed as 'the world's first 4k, wireless, transparent OLED TV,' the LG Signature OLED-T is built to stand in the middle of a room and look like a clear pane of glass when it isn't in use.

When it's turned on, viewers can either keep it see-through, like a window that's playing a movie on it, or turn it opaque, so the wall behind it is no longer visible.

Because the "wireless transmission box remains near the wall, beaming visuals and sound to the screen, so it can be moved freely or placed in the middle of the room," although it will still be tethered to a power cord.

I can see future homes including these as windows. I want to see a model that incorporates an aquarium.

  1. Kind of a meaningless upgrade to scam the next bunch.

    1. If they could get the price down, I could see all sorts of uses for it. For instance, being able to see through a display means that you could overlay a diagram over something as you worked on it and still see what you were doing.
