In 1996, a Mel Gibson movie called Ransom was released. Gibson played a wealthy businessman whose son is kidnapped for ransom. But rather than pay the ransom, Gibson's character goes on live television and offers the ransom as a bounty on the heads of the kidnappers who, as you would guess, ultimately turn on each other.
Trump seems to be doing something similar. Mediaite reports: "Trump Promises to Pay ‘Reporters’ a Commission For Finding Fraud: ‘Trillions’ Have Been ‘Stolen’." From the article:
President Donald Trump pledged to pay a “1% commission” Tuesday to anyone who turns in fraudsters — even “reporters.”
Speaking Tuesday during an Oval Office event in which he recognized right-leaning independent journalist Nick Shirley, Trump claimed the new Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program would pay out so well journalists might want to ditch their jobs.
“If you turn somebody in and you let’s say a report and you find a billion dollars, we are giving a commission to that person of 1%. It’s a lot of money. And if it’s 10 billion, 200 billion, 400 billion, we are giving a 1% commission to that person,” he claimed.

The article relates that "Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said fraudsters in Minnesota bribed mothers roughly $1,500 per child to falsely claim their children were autistic, saddling the children with diagnoses they did not have" "while mothers of children who actually need the services are left unable to afford care."
- And borrowing from Hunter Biden's playbook, who sold crappy paintings for huge sums: "Did Ilhan Omar’s Husband Sell Empty Barrels of Wine?"
Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett — the one to whom she is currently married, not her brother, whom she pretended to marry for immigration fraud purposes — used to run a winery. Because, you know, she’s a super devout Muslim and all that. The winery abruptly closed earlier this year amid official scrutiny. Turns out part of the problem might’ve been that Omar's husband was selling investors empty barrels of wine. It’s absolutely incredible how these people seem incapable of running a business or holding a job that is not a front for crime.
