From Guns & Ammo: "Bear Creek Arsenal's New .30-30 AR-10: Reviewed." I have to admit that my first thought when I read this was the famous line from Jurassic Park: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." That most .30-30 is round-nosed rather than Spitzer wasn't a major concern to me if you all you want is a short range woods gun. That it is a rimmed case might be more of a concern--thinking of possible issues with rim lock--although the Russians seem to do fine with their 7.62x54R. But its weight at 8.2 lbs. is about a full pound heavier than the Marlin 336 lever action and just shy of two pounds heavier than the Winchester Model 94. I suppose it opens up more choices in the way of pointed bullets if you want to stick to the .30-30; but if you are going to switch to an AR-10, why not also go with a different cartridge?
Since the 300blk already has a solid reputation, both sub and supersonically, this is a waste of time. Also, 300blk can be manufactured from 5.56mm brass which is the most common caliber in USA. Now add the finicky nature of feeding 30-30 cartridges, this is a waste for sure.
ReplyDeleteBut, who doesnt want a cowboy cartridge in their iron? Ill take one!
