If you haven't already heard, Trump is going to issue an executive order that he hopes will begin a process of lowering drug costs in the United States by requiring that the U.S. not pay more for medications than the lowest price offered to other industrialized nations. (How much it ultimately saves the U.S. will be up on the air because if drug companies no longer get their products subsidized by Americans, they will need to raise the prices paid by other countries).
The particular executive order is probably limited to Medicare, but could have broader implications. The Daily Mail, reporting on the issue, notes: "Before being implemented, the proposal would have to be approved by the members of Congress and Big Pharma is expected to lobby against the policy and sue to block it if it’s enacted." That tells me that there are members of Congress that will put the profits of a few drug companies above the health and economic well being of Americans. But we already knew that based on what happened during the Covid panic.
It's actually a really good idea, so of course it will be stopped.
