A New Catholic Pope

A notable event even if one is not Catholic simply because of the size of the Catholic Church, but particularly so in this case because it is the first American born pontiff: Robert Frances Prevost was born in Chicago, and graduated with a degree in mathematics from Villanova University before becoming a priest and joining the Order of St. Augustine. Much of his career was spent in Peru, where he has duel citizenship. He will use the name Leo XIV.
