For some reason, the story of Ximena Arias-Cristobal has caught national attention. She is an illegal alien who has been living in the U.S. since she was four, and was attending the Dalton State Community College in Georgia. She had an outstanding deportation order which she never bothered to care about. When she was pulled over earlier this month for making an illegal turn on red, it was discovered she was driving without a license, although she apparently lied about having an international driver's license. She was arrested and her immigration status was discovered, landing her in ICE detention.
“It’s super maddening,” said attorney Dustin Baxter of Kuck Baxter Immigration.
“We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say there was no ill intent on the part of this police officer, it’s just heartbreaking that a mistake by a police officer cost this person her freedom ultimately and may cost her her residency in the United States.”
No, it is not heartbreaking. She has been breaking immigration laws and motor-vehicle laws and who knows how many others. Perhaps her having to leave the United States will allow an American to get a job she had taken, or get a slot to attend the community college she had been attending.
It's a Christmas miracle! Seriously, send 'em all home. All of them.
ReplyDeleteI came across a follow-up article the other day that reported that even though her state motor-vehicle related charges had been dropped, she was still going to be deported; and, it added, it was likely that her mother will soon be arrested and deported.
