The ancient Egyptians of the Middle Kingdom period made the same mistake regarding immigration as we have. Being a wealthy country, Egypt apparently thought allowing a flood of immigrants from the Near East would benefit the kingdom by promoting economic growth in the Delta region. The consequence was that these immigrants eventually became so powerful that they either took over control of Lower Egypt or, as the video argues, paved the way for their fellows from the Near East to invade. This resulted in the end of the Middle Kingdom period and saw power in Lower Egypt pass to the people known as the Hyksos.
