VIDEO: Test of 1970s/80s Era Army LRRP Food Packet

As the video below explains, the meal tested in the video is the predecessor to the MRE, and was developed for LRRP troops to provide a lighter weight alternative to the then standard C rations. There are no dates on the packaging, but is probably from the later production runs. Despite the approximate 40 years since it was manufactured, the freeze dried beef stew (produced by the predecessor to Mountain House) and the freeze dried coffee and powdered cocoa were in consumable condition. The candy bar was not.
