Weekend Reading

•  Greg Ellifritz at Active Response Training has a new Weekend Knowledge Dump. Some self-defense articles to check out are on the difference between a defensive display of a firearm versus brandishing, a link to the latest Rangemaster Newsletter, and "in extremis communication" discussing better ways to give orders to someone you have at gun point (but see the display versus brandishing article mentioned earlier. For preppers, a few that you might want to check out is a link to the effects of extreme heat and humidity on medication you might have stored, ballistic gel tests of the7.62x39 (although it would be more useful to know how they perform at 50 or 100 yards), and the article on the "art" of bribery.
• Jon Low at Defensive Pistolcraft has posted another newsletter.  Some articles he links to that are worth checking out:
• "There Are Monsters Among Us, and That’s Why I Carry" that discusses how quickly and easily we could find ourselves in a defensive situation. There is a long Facebook quote from Tom Givens that addresses the same thing, although it throws in people attacked and killed by pitbulls or other animals as a possibility as well. And "The Chances?" by John Farnham specifically addresses a situation where someone was attacked in their driveway by pitbulls. 
•  "The 3 Most Common Safety Violations At The Gun Range." Are you guilty of any of these?
• "Can Armed Civilians Stop an Active Shooter Better Than Police?" According to John Lott, the answer is "yes" because the armed civilian is there at the crucial moment when the shooting begins while, in most cases police are showing after the shooter has already had time to shoot multiple targets. 
• And for those interested in military topics, "The Death of the Triangular Patrol Base?" which discusses how drones and thermal imagers are changing warfare looking at the specific triangular patrol base and how ti concentrates troops into a very visible target in thermals.
