Chuke relates the top two items recommended by a bear guard for defense against bears. Although the video has them in the reverse order, the first line of defense--to get rid of an overly curious bear--is actually a loud air horn (he says it is 121 dB). The other, more final, is a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with Brenneke Black Magic slugs. I've seen those slugs recommended by other bear experts as well because they offer deeper penetration against the big bears than the standard Foster rifled slug that is your typical shotgun slug offered for sale.
