The Good Luck America channel on YouTube has released a video compiling some news reports from when law enforcement and the military were confiscating firearms following the Katrina Hurricane. Note the segment with the soldiers where the officer felt bad about confiscating firearms from fellow Americans ... but not enough to refuse the order. That is the reality.

ReplyDeleteThe big question is: Was anyone ever held accountable for these Civil Rights violations?
ReplyDeleteNot really. The NRA, Gun Owners of America, and Second Amendment Foundation sued the NOPD and reached a settlement where the NOPD agreed to return the firearms it had seized (https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna27087738). However, the Louisiana legislature passed a law that prohibited the mass confiscation of firearms as happened in New Orleans, and at least 21 other states followed suit (https://iowafc.org/2015/09/09/10-years-ago-the-govt-went-door-to-door-confiscating-guns-lets-keep-it-from-happening-again/).
DeleteNever again.
