In the following video, the Yankee Marshal makes two basic arguments. First, that in a civil war, police (city, state and federal law enforcement) would be the primary enemies of any revolutionaries, not the military. He gives several reasons, but one of them is that surveys of the military have shown that military personnel, in general, would be uncomfortable turning their weapons on other citizens, while police have no such qualms. Second, he asserts that the reason for the militarization of the police that we have witnessed over the past couple of decades isn't because crime has been going up (it hasn't for most of that period) but because government officials understand that the police are their first line of defense against an angry populace and they are preparing for it.
During Reconstruction in Texas the State Police ran rampant over the state, committing many atrocities. No reason to think these days things would be different.
ReplyDeleteI think the law enforcement response to the January 6 protests give us an idea of how things will go, at least initially, with a slow, steady trickle of arrests and convictions rather than a sudden rush that might get attention.
DeleteThere are a millions of Americans spread across this continent that would fall into the class of people who Brandon and Bill Ayers would look upon as needing elimination. Trying a slow burn roundup on that demographic under some national security pretense would still trigger a reaction. If they go for the big names and personalities that host the radio programs and a front on the interwebs first, the rank and file Joe Sixpack types in everytown USA will see that and have a reaction. While not everyone is inclined to answer the bell at that juncture, those that take such a development as an opening shot to hostilities will assume a wartime posture. That may be defensive in nature depending upon the individual, or perhaps more proactive in the case of the more disenfranchised and eager to get on with it.
DeleteThat last faction will, if driven to that point, end routine day to day policing in this country as we know it. You simply cannot expect to go on conducting radar speed traps, routine traffic patrols, and construction details in a police uniform while your brother lawmen are raiding the out of favor political dissidents nationwide. The RIC (British police in Ireland), had a firm grip on the Irish People until 1919-1920 when the IRA started shooting them. They melted away like the spring snow. The Army took over the war and relied on Auxiliaries to flesh out the special police ranks, which also did not work.
I predicate these assumptions on the scenario where there is a political decision taken at the national level to eliminate the opposition by force and there are no other destabilizing events in progress like a urban feral chimpout or illegal alien insurrection. Either of these examples on a widespread scale could shatter the police forces in the same way if they were to occur.
I'm not directly commenting on the topic of the video, but I just want to point out for those who may not know...that Yankee Marshal is a Liberal, a Leftist. Just as with the despicable Grant Cunningham, just because someone likes guns doesn't make them our friend, and it doesn't mean that they vote for pro-gun politicians. Just my two cents and FWIW.
ReplyDeleteYes. One of the reasons I was surprised at this video.
DeleteThat was another military, another time. Thankfully ours is probably not so competent anymore.
ReplyDeleteDiversity, Inclusion and Equity destroys every organization that adopts it.
DeleteThe military, whatever its position turns out to be should a civil war come to pass, has a well defined operational structure that covers almost everything that might occur. Police, not so much. The military also has bases from which they can operate and, for the most part, maintain security of. Police, not so much.
ReplyDeletePolice, in such event, will all dress, and look, alike; peace officers will be indistinguishable from law enforcement officers (think: Mayberry with Andy Taylor, peace officer, and Barney Fife, law enforcement officer).
There will be nothing gained by attempting to differentiate between them, they all will be justifiable targets.
And they live down the street, or around the corner, or in the next subdivision over, and they have families.
It's accepted that military units suffering 10% casualties become "combat ineffective" although there have been numerous instances of units suffering substantially higher casualty percentages who fight on and manage to carry the day. I suspect the same cannot be said of police, inflicting a higher percentage of casualties, in however such manner it is accomplished, will reduce their effectiveness considerably, but not to zero.
There will be a point at which police will be quite reduced in effectiveness but still a threat, the more lawless members of society also posing a threat, and some military units also in the mix; think "Mad Max" on double-doses of steroids. That will be exciting to experience.
IMHO any divisions in this country that are strong enough to result in civil war...these same divisions will be present within the ranks of the police and military. They will split and take sides as well.
