Modern Civilization. It's Not Christian Nor Wholly Western.

In the video, below, Whatifalthist explores the idea of what is Modern culture or civilization, what makes it different than Western Civilization, and how it grew out of Western Civilization. The video is longer than is his usual, being a bit more than an hour in length. In short, he notes how the concept of "modernity" has changed over the centuries, moving from meaning the period after Christ was born, to being post-Medieval, and now essentially representing a society that asserted itself in the second half of the 19th Century. It is in this latter sense that Whatifalthist uses the term when describing "Modern Civilization". He concludes that "Modern Civilization" is distinct from the historical Western Civilization, but represents the modern elites and cosmopolitans. That is, he argues, our ruling class are literally not part of the cultures or civilizations over which they rule. This is significant, because Modern Civilization has no real dynamic culture of its own, but is premised on rejecting the basic foundational elements of Western Civilization, including beauty, the family, the idea of the nation, Christianity, etc. As the video notes, modernity hates all the things that give meaning to people's lives.

It is interesting to contemplate whether what he is describing is the system of Mystery Babylon, which will fall and be replaced by the Beast. If correct, this would suggest that the Beast will be so successful because he will offer something that purports to give meaning to the lives of people whose lives have no meaning under the rule of the current crop of elites.

  1. I generally like his videos. This one was too long for the hot tub tonight. Also: try the Why Files.
