I don’t know if Xi is losing control as much as consolidating control. Certainly, Stalin wasn’t losing control when he did his purges in the 1930s. The difference, though, was under Stalin, the lot of the average Russian was improving while that may no longer be the case for the average Chinese.

I think he intends to be leader for life . . . however long that is.
