Best Three-Season Sleeping Bags

Backpacker Magazine has its field tests and findings on what it considers the best (over various categories) 3-season sleeping bags. (Just click cancel to get through the subscription request). Their categories and results (with links):

Best All-around: First Ascent Karakoram 20

Ultralight Ultrawarm: Feathered Friends Osprey 30

Bargain: Columbia Reactor 25

Warm & Tough: L.L.Bean Katahdin PrimaLoft Synergy 20

Extra Room: Western Mountaineering Alder 25

Summer Bargain: Slumberjack Lone Pine 20

Plush & Light Pad: Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xtherm
I'm still pretty happy with my Cat's Meow.  And although I don't do winter camping, my oldest son knows from experience that a lighter-weight sleeping bag stuffed into a warmer 3-season bag gives you a plenty warm 4-season sleeping solution.
