John Wilder's latest article, "Why We Can’t Do War Anymore," delves into why we were able to defeat the Nazis and Japanese in WWII, at the same time, but can't defeat Iran. Primarily it has to do with costs: Western weapon systems are expensive; Iranian drones are (relatively speaking) cheap. For instance, as Wilder observes, our aircraft carriers are so expensive and so limited in number that we cannot afford to lose any--and so we have to keep them well away from where they might be struck by an enemy missile or drone.
