A Monday Medley of Videos (On A Tuesday)

"The Quintessential Trekking Kit"--Townsends (7 min.)
There is a lot of interest in exploring or enjoying nature the way our predecessors did, whether it be the Vikings, a traveler in the Middle-Ages, an early American frontiersman, or even an early outdoorsman (as we would use that term today) from the late 1800's or early 1900's. In the video above, we get to see how a woodsman of the early 1800's might have set up a travel kit.

"Soissons and the End of the Roman Empire"--The History Guy (12 min.)
As the host notes, "[t]he fall of the Western Roman empire was not a single event, but a cultural and economic shift that took centuries." Soissons was a Frankish domain located around the area of Paris, and would up forming the core of Charlemagne's empire, yet tried to hold on to its Roman heritage.

The Battle of Britain heats up as Germany pushes ahead with the vague goal of invading Britain. But there are many challenges facing Germany, not the least being that they have no real idea or plan how to conduct such an invasion.

A look at the other mass shootings this past week.

"The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by H. P. Lovecraft / A HorrorBabble Production (5 hrs 21 min.)
This story is one of Lovecraft's longest stories--really a novella rather than a short story. I personally consider it to be his best work. Although technically part of his Randolph Carter universe, it has always impressed me as one that belongs to the Cthulhu mythos. I've been listening to this on my daily commute for the past week, and have to say that the narrator has done an excellent job.
