The video I had linked to the other day suggested that something that the Church could have done to avoid the shooting was to cancel the funeral. But a news report from KUTV indicated that police did not notify the Church about the tip off they received of potential violence. From the article:
KUTV asked UPD whether they notified the local church about the “problems” tip, and, if so, when that notification was made; whether there was any discussion of sending everyone away with the possibility of a problem; and, if no notification was made, why?
UPD Assistant Chief Justin Hoyal said officers were not aware of the funeral until they received the tip shortly before the shooting.
Police did not notify the church because of how “last minute” the information was, and there was no credible threat, according to Hoyal.
