- It's Friday, so time for another "Weekend Knowledge Dump" from Active Response Training.
- "Say NO to ‘Favorite’ Weapons"--Ammo Land. The gist of this article is that you should be able to pick up any firearm--even one that is unfamiliar to you--and be able to use it effectively.
- "The NEW UPDATED Army Rifle & Carbine Training Circular, FREE for Download"--The Firearms Blog. The article has photos/excerpts of the circular, but you can download it as a PDF here.
- "Real Facts About School & Other Mass Shooting Defense Tactics"--Ammo Land. Basic take away is that in most cases, the shooters know they are on a short time table, and will generally shoot for about 10 minutes before killing themselves. Thus, anything to disrupt the shooter's plans will save lives as they run out of time.
- "Quick Magazine Tip"--Arctic Specter. The author writes, "when you’re spending 24-72 hours laying in a dark hole, you won’t always be able to find that next magazine you need quite as easily. In fact, you likely have removed your rack system altogether and have it layed out in front of you. That being the case throwing a little bit of luminescent tape on the floor plate of your magazine can go a long way." He then demonstrates what to do using a PMAG.
Other Stuff":
- "'No money but this is your f****** truck?' Angry man confronts 'beggar' after spotting him getting into a 2014 Toyota pick-up"--Daily Mail. More anger toward the "rabbits."
- "D.C. Attorney General Ignores Court Order, Refuses Gun Permits"--The Federalist. Rotting from the head, down.
- "Judicial Watch: Justice Department Documents Reveal Widespread Use of Fast and Furious Weapons by Major Mexican Drug Cartels – Linked to at least 69 Killings"--Judicial Watch. The use of force to shape public opinion. Isn't that terrorism?
- "Undercover footage shows New York JFK workers entering restricted airport area with NO SECURITY CHECKS as travelers inside face lengthy TSA wait times"--Daily Mail.
- "Hawaii could be first to put gun owners in federal database"--AP. "Most people entered in the 'Rap Back' database elsewhere in the U.S. are those in 'positions of trust,' such as school teachers and bus drivers, said Stephen Fischer of the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division. Hawaii could be the first state to add gun owners." The database is designed to inform the parent state if the person in a "position of trust" violates a law in a different state.
- "Milo Yiannopoulos Assaulted By Crazy Student Protesters at DePaul, Cops Do Nothing"--Reason Hit & Run. "DePaul University Black Lives Matter protesters shut down a Milo Yiannopoulos event on Tuesday night. They justified their illiberal actions on grounds that Yiannopoulos's speech spreads hate and violence—which, incidentally, is true, given that the students retaliated by literally attacking him." The organizers had been required by DePaul officials to pay for additional security--the security that then did nothing.

- "Syria conflict: IS 'destroyed helicopters' at Russian base"--BBC News. I've seen several articles on this, and the Russians are denying that any aircraft were destroyed. Nevertheless, it is clear that several structures or vehicles were completely destroyed.
- "U.S.-backed Syrian alliance launches new attack near IS capital"--Reuters. "A U.S.-backed alliance of Syrian militias launched a new offensive against Islamic State fighters near their de facto capital of Raqqa city on Tuesday, a monitoring group and an official said."

- "This Dutch town will grow its own food, live off-grid, and handle its own waste"--Science Alert. "ReGen Villages wants to harness the power of today's technology to create 'off-grid capable neighbourhoods' that provide the comforts of a regular modern lifestyle, but which are entirely self-reliant and sustainable: growing their own food, generating their own energy, managing waste locally, and recycling water."
- "How Black Death wiped out whole villages: Pottery reveals the ruin wrought by the plague in medieval Britain"--Daily Mail.
- "Two Kinds of Indians"--West Hunter. He discusses recent research on comparing DNA of various American Indian populations, both modern and remains from ancient burials. The interesting part:
Now for the weirdness. None of the ancient DNA samples have any descendants or close relatives today. Zip. “no ancient haplotype shares a common ancestor with a modern haplotype more recently than ~9,000 years ago. Their samples were mostly taken from large population centers along the western coast of South America: apparently those people went extinct after Columbus.
