Succession Fever Spreads to Maine

The lead up to civil war: "Enormous Maine county wants to secede because conservative locals hate Dem-controlled state house"--Daily Mail. This would not have been an issue 100 years ago since, in the past, most states were set up similar to the federal system when it came to electing legislators: they would have something like the House of Representatives with representatives distributed based on population, and then an upper house similar to the Senate with distribution based on the counties--e.g., one or two per county irrespective of population. But the Supreme Court decided that all legislators had to be divided up based on population, concentrating power in the larger cities. And that was fine as long as there wasn't too deep a political divide between the left and the right. But now the fracture is so great that the red counties no longer want to be subject to the whims of the Democrat dominated cities. Already there has been votes in Oregon's rural eastern counties to become part of Idaho, with similar grumblings in eastern Washington and northern California. I suspect we will see similar movements pop up in other states dominated by liberal enclaves.

  1. There is a danger to be considered with such a move. Northern Maine has a strong residual Penobscot and other Indian tribal population. If Aroostook County or a large segment of the North and East of the state decide to break away from the Southwest, It is possible that these tribal groups may decide that they can do the same within the breakaway areas. They could go so far as to try and reclaim a national level sovereignty over the vast northern and eastern wilderness of Maine where they have a 10 thousand year claim to the land. There are enough Penobscots, Abenaki, Passamaquaddy, and Mic Mac in these areas living under federal tribal identity to pose a serious threat to the political status and presence of these breakaway North Mainers if push comes to shove. There are also plenty of damn fool liberal do-gooder farmers throughout Maine who subscribe to the "stolen Abenaki land" mantra to the extent that they use that phrase below the commerical farm name on advertising and web media. If they get burned off the land Deerfield Raid style or thrown out Rhodesia/South Africa style. they will have volunteered for their own elimination.
Better think long and hard about throwing the political helm hard over while you have 1000's of people living in your county who may not agree with your vision, are possibly hostile to it, and are unwilling to leave or recognize your authority if you pull it off.

I finally got a chance to try out the Shield Arms red dot sight that I mounted on my Glock 43x MOS. I think I'll keep it.
