in their relentless quest to destabilize every society with which they come into contact, "progressives" move seamlessly from one provocation to the next, camels sticking their noses under every tent, mindless of the human and institutional debris they leave behind and eager to get on with attacking the next potential pile of rubble. This animating principle, by the way, is what is known as Critical Theory.
As some background, he explains:
Critical Theory, which essentially holds that there is no received tenet of civilization that should not either be questioned (the slogan “question authority” originated with the Frankfurt School) or attacked. Our cultural totems, shibboleths, and taboos are declared either completely arbitrary or the result of a long-ago “conspiracy,” steadfastly maintained down through the ages—as degenerate modern feminism blames male “privilege” and other forms of imaginary oppression. If the feminists have an argument, it is with God, not men; but since few of them believe in God, it is upon men that they turn their harpy ire. In its purest form, which is to say its most malevolent form, Critical Theory is the very essence of satanism: rebellion for the sake of rebellion against an established order that has obtained for eons, and with no greater promise for the future than destruction.
But we are not allowed to criticize critical theory or its ideas of Cultural Marxism because, since its founders in the Frankfurt School were Jewish, any such criticism is anti-Semitic and, besides, it is just a right-wing conspiracy theory. Which is odd since, as Walsh points out, "the Marxists' own website happily embraces the Frankfurters' intellectual and geographic patrimony".
So where we do we stand?
But the walls have fallen, the dams have burst, and there is no end in sight. In accordance with the late Robert Conquest's Third Law of Politics, we are now ruled by a cabal of our enemies. As they were in National Socialist Germany, the universities have become hotbeds of intolerant socialist orthodoxy. Thought-crime laws are being bruited world wide; the concept of "protected classes" makes a mockery of equality before the law. George Floyd, a obese, violent drug addict who died in police custody after the commission of a crime, has become a secular saint, the apotheosis of "blackness" to a generation that has no memory of Martin Luther King, Jr., much less the Harlem Renaissance. Whole cities have been sacrificed on his altar.
Of course, we have all of Washington working overtime to protect a corrupt president and his son simply because they support critical theory. And because of our meek acquiescence to the Covid lockdowns and other controls, we are, as Walsh describes, "Like the lady in the old sex joke, Americans have shown who they are and now we're just haggling about the price." And the price will be even greater control over our lives based on the excuse of "climate change" and saving the planet, and those opposing it will be imprisoned, censored, or cancelled.
As John Wilder points out in a recent post, the "green" in "green energy" isn't the green of trees or grass, but the green of cash.
AOC’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti even let the mask slip and noted that the real goal of Green Energy policy. In his own words, according to Sam Ricketts, WaPo® reporter: “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal, is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all. Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire economy thing.”
The entire economy. Why? Because they don’t like you. They want to funnel money to the people that give them the big shrimp parties, and give them money to put out ads so they can run again. The thing that fuels Washington, D.C. isn’t electricity. It is cash. And shrimp. And the quest for power – over you.
Walsh concludes his article with this dire prediction:
They never stop, they never sleep, they never quit. As I said in this space recently, first posit a counter-factual, and then act upon it as if it were true. From Covid to "hate speech" to "climate change," the walls are closing in, enveloping you as a formerly free citizen in a prison of their device. You look out the barred windows: the lone and level sands stretch away, and all you can see in the distance are more camels, heading your way.
I'm writing about Frankfort School on Monday, probably.
