First up, an article from The Atlantic entitled "Dude, She’s (Exactly 25 Percent) Out of Your League," supports Red Pill theories concerning sexual market value. The study found that people are well aware of their value in the dating market; most tried to date out of their league, but would not date someone below their value. Some other interesting findings:
- "Across the four cities and the thousands of users, consistent patterns around age, race, and education level emerge. White men and Asian women are consistently more desired than other users, while black women rank anomalously lower."
- "In the study, men’s desirability peaks at age 50. But women’s desirability starts high at age 18 and falls throughout their lifespan."
- "A more educated man is almost always more desirable, on average: Men with postgraduate degrees outperform men with bachelor’s degrees; men with bachelor’s degrees beat high-school graduates." But for women, an undergraduate degree is most desirable; postgraduate education is associated with decreased desirability among women.
- "Participants preferred stoic men who worked even though they were experiencing health problems as long-term mates, disregarding the male's facial symmetry and physique."
- "Status also significantly affected long-term mate choice."
- "In short-term mate choice, participants shifted their preferences to symmetrical faces and mesomorphic bodies, signals of attractiveness, disregarding stoicism."
Women tend to put the same kind of emphasis on status that men put on beauty. That doesn’t mean it’s the end all and be all of everything, but it does mean status is a lot more important to women than it is to men. What that means is that as a man, if you ever stop performing at the level your woman is accustomed to, you may lose her regardless of everything else. Lose your job, get demoted, take a big pay cut, lose your moxie somehow and women are much more likely to walk away than a man would be with a woman in the same situation. That doesn’t mean it’s a given, but it does mean that going backward in status as a man risks your relationship with a woman. No one with experience with women would be surprise by any of this, but for younger men, it is well worth knowing.
