On November 5, 1871, a stagecoach carrying 7 passengers plus the driver was attacked shortly after it had left Wickenburg, Arizona Territory. Six men were killed and two passengers--a man and a woman--were injured. Although the attack appeared to be that of a nearby American Indian tribe, there is evidence that the coach and the mail it was carrying had been gone through by the attackers looking for money and gold. Thus the mystery is whether the attack was carried out by American Indians, Mexican bandits dressed as Indians, or both ... or had been arranged by the two that survived the attack.
