The problem with most green energy solutions is that physics and economics don't care about your intentions. "Country On Green Transition’s Leading Edge Will Fire Up Coal Plants To Meet Demand This Winter"--The Daily Caller:
Germany, which has spent hundreds of billions of dollars to enact the green energy transition, will reactivate several coal-fired units in order to meet peak demand and keep the lights on this winter, Bloomberg reported. The country has experienced elevated and inconsistent energy prices since Russia invaded Ukraine, impacting both German customers and companies.
The German government opted to go ahead with its plans to phase out its last nuclear reactors in April, and the war in Ukraine has resulted in diminished flow of relatively inexpensive natural gas from Russia, according to Bloomberg. German officials have cited safety concerns and a desire to focus on developing green energy as their rationale for shuttering the remaining reactors.
You read that right: they got rid of the zero carbon emitting nuclear plants when they most needed them, so now they have to resort to burning coal.
While we think of memes as funny little comments or pictures on the internet, it's more traditional meaning is "an element of a culture or system of behavior passed from one individual to another by imitation or other nongenetic means." In his book Engines of Creation, K. Eric Drexler adopted the term to mean viral ideas, which like physical viruses could evolve and compete for dominance. Essentially, persons, countries and cultures could be "infected" by bad memes.
West Germany was at the forefront of the anti-nuclear protests in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It grew particularly heated in the 1980s because the U.S. wanted to position tactical nuclear weapons in West Germany to defend against a Soviet invasion (the Soviet Union could field many times more tanks than the West), which the Soviet Union and its useful idiots in the West opposed. So, today, we have a population in Germany where the anti-nuclear meme has metastasized to such a great extent I'm surprised they even allow x-ray machines.

What did Socialists use before before burning coal? Nuclear power.
