Sen. Mitt Romney has apparently realized that he will likely lose a bid for re-election and so has announced he is retiring from the Senate. But not without pummeling Trump in the process. From Breitbart:
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) took a shot at former President Donald Trump and criticized him for his lack of “leadership” during his Wednesday announcement that he is not seeking reelection in 2024.
Romney criticized Trump for calling “global warming a hoax” in a video statement he released. Romney also said, “neither President Biden nor former President Trump are leading their party to confront” the “critical challenges” facing the country like the “mounting national debt, climate change, and the ambitious authoritarians of Russia and China.”
“President Biden underinvests in the military and President Trump underinvests in our alliances,” Romney added. “Political motivations too often impede the solutions that these challenges demand.”
Romney later told Politico that, although he is “not a Biden supporter,” he “can’t vote for Donald Trump.”
He sure burned through all the good will he had built up in Utah from when he was given control of preparing for the Winter Olympics in 2002. And for what? So Democrats in his home state of Michigan or his adopted home state of Massachusetts would like him? Wikipedia summarizes his failures pretty well: "... in 2020, Romney was the lone Republican to vote to convict Donald Trump in his first impeachment trial, making him the first senator ever to have voted to remove a president of the same party from office. Romney also voted to convict in Trump's second trial in 2021. He marched alongside Black Lives Matter protestors, voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, supported gun control measures, and did not vote for Trump in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections." Talk about a Manchurian candidate.
