VIDEO: First Meal Using Earthenware Oven

VIDEO: "The First Meal"--Townsends (13 min.)
This is a video that explores 18th Century cooking: recipes, tips and tricks, history, and the technology and techniques used. In this video, the producers of the video test out an earthenware oven they had built to cook a meal for several people. As you will note, the fire was only used to heat up the oven and then all the wood and ashes were removed before the actual cooking. Also note the planning that went into the cooking as some items needed to be cooked earlier on while others were cooked later after the oven had somewhat cooled. The producers also noted that after the meal was cooked and eaten, the oven was still hot enough to use for baking bread for later use.
