Some people are too dangerous to ever be allowed out of prison, even by mistake; and the only way to ensure that won't happen is if they are executed. That's what makes the death penalty necessary in a functioning system of law.
Throw away the key. Or remove their demand for oxygen. After a fair trial, of course.
