Substantial amounts of ink have been spilled in trying to figure out what is the name of the beast and why it is associated with the number 666. The author of this article discusses some of the different methods or theories that scholars and theologians have employed. But, since most of the symbolism in the book of Revelation can be deciphered by reference to other scripture, the author decides to take that route. It turns out that the number 666, according to the author, is only linked to one other person in the Bible, that being King Solomon: "Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold[.]" (1 Kings 10:14). He goes on to point out certain traits of Solomon and the Antichrist that are the same. Thus, he suggests that the Antichrist will bear the name "Solomon" or some variant of it (e.g., Suleiman, Sulayman, Salomão, Shlomo, Soghomon, Salman, Zalman).
