John Wilder has posted some memes to lift your spirits ... or at least give you a chuckle. One of the memes had Google AI responses to the questions "why does my wife yell at me" versus "why does my husband yell at me." And the response for the question about the wife yelling was all about the wife's feelings and needing to be heard; whereas the response for the husband yelling was the number for an abuse hotline.
I decided to try it out, entering the same questions. And it worked.
In answer to "why does my wife yell at me" the response was drawn from a site called Gottman which apparently offers counseling services. The response read: "Your wife might be yelling because she feels unheard. When she feels like her thoughts and feelings are not being acknowledged or valued, yelling can be a way to assert her presence and the importance of her opinions."
Changing the question to "why does my wife yell at me all the time" got a similar response, apparently from yet another counseling center: "Potential triggers for a wife's yelling include feeling unheard, financial stress, mental health struggles, disrespect, etc. It's important to understand the root cause. Constant yelling damages trust and emotional intimacy in a marriage. It also negatively impacts any children exposed to the fighting."
In answer to "why does my husband yell at me" the response was from a divorce attorney and read: "Control Issues. Sometimes, yelling is a way to maintain control. If your husband uses yelling to intimidate you, it could be a tactic to get what he wants. This is a serious issue and can be a form of emotional abuse."
When I changed the question to "why does my husband yell at me all the time" it returned: "Reasons could include high stress, anger, mental health struggles, childhood patterns, poor communication skills, insecurity, or wanting to assert control. But whatever the cause, abuse is never justified."
Google is literally biased against men. Per Google, yelling is only abuse if men do it. If women do it, it is because they feel unheard or disrespected.
You can't hate these people enough.

DeleteI know some women that don't understand why the men in their lives are "suddenly" obsessed with Marcus Aurelius and the other Stoics. I don't know how to tell them that it's because there's nowhere else to turn for real advice. The therapy techniques developed for women and psych majors don't work for anyone else, and they're no longer really being offered to men anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs to the double standard, that's why I don't date Mexican women. I don't like the idea of being stabbed when she feels "unheard."
It doesn't help that the courts and most women view men as nothing more than paychecks with legs.
