Some Slung Shot Videos

The slung shot is an often improvised weapon that uses a weight (historically a lead or iron ball--i.e., shot--for a ship's gun, but any type of weight can be used) at the end of a cord or loop, or, in many cases, the cord or loop woven around the weight (e.g., using a monkey-fist type knot). It is then used like a flail to swing the weight to strike a person. If you look at your state laws on concealed weapons--especially older statutes--they will typically include slung shots along with daggers, dirks, Bowie knives, and the like, as prohibited weapons. In some states (Idaho being one) the statutes will make use of the term "sling shot" which is the same weapon (these laws pre-date what we today would call a "slingshot" or "catapult" using a elastic band to launch a projectile). Although I would bet that most prosecutors, judges and police officers probably assume that it does refer to the modern slingshot.

The first two videos go over slung shots. I also came across a video on bolos, which I included; as well as a video on saps and blackjacks and how they might be used.
