A New Weekend Knowledge Dump ...

... from Active Response Training. Before diving into the Weekend Knowledge Dump, I would also point out that Greg Ellifritz has published two other articles earlier this week:

  • First is "Preparation for Future 'Days of Jihad'." He notes that Funker Tactical has produced a series of videos about the Hamas attack that are not as anodyne as we see in the news showing how Hamas carried out their attacks. He has also spoken to counter-terrorism experts and that "[t]hey don’t believe this problem will go away soon and are predicting a higher risk of attacks on Americans for the next three to six months." He adds:

I think the most likely scenario is that we will see several  individual “lone wolf” mentally ill terrorists with a strong attraction to HAMAS ideals randomly attacking people or places in the United States.  I say “randomly” because although Jewish people and physical locations occupied or owned by Jews might seem like the logical target, they present some difficulty for an attacker of this type.  In my experience, Jewish synagogues and schools are much better defended than the churches and schools of other religions.  That makes these random terrorist attackers less likely to choose them as victims.

He also believes that these will mostly be "low-tech" attacks using knives, firearms or vehicles. Due to the Left's anti-gun preferences, I, myself, would expect such terrorists in the U.S. to favor firearms so they can kill two birds with one stone, metaphorically speaking. In any event, he notes the problem with how porous is our southern border with illegals coming from more than just Latin American countries. Greg also notes that these illegals quite often pay extraordinary sums to smugglers, and it is possible that some of these people might be convinced to commit acts of terror in exchange for having their debt paid off or erased.

In any event, he links to articles on terrorist knife and vehicles attacks so you can learn to recognize these types of attacks and correctly react. He also suggest you have a plan in the event you are abducted on how to escape, along with some tips, and that you decide beforehand how you will react linking to addition articles on the topic. Be sure to check it out..

  • His second article is entitled "How I Almost Got Arrested in Turkey." Basically, although he takes special precautions so that weapons and ammunition do not accidentally get into his luggage, he overlooked his clothing and wound up taking a speed-strip with ammunition with him. Although it made it through multiple security checks traveling from the U.S. to Turkey and even within Turkey, it finally tripped him up. Fortunately, a Turkish police officer took pity on him and the ammunition was thrown away and he was allowed to get on his flight.
  • Finally is the Weekend Knowledge Dump for this weekend.  A few things that particularly jumped out to me as useful and/or informative were:
    • Paul Martin believes that we need to start spooling up for a run on ammunition. I agree. We've already seen Lake City close off sales--likely to replenish or further build up military stockpiles--and it is likely that other federal purchases may tie up other manufacturers. Also, a few of the largest ammo producers just got purchased by European investors which could very well shut down or limit production.
    • An article at Organic Prepper on "reading the streets"--i.e., observing and understanding visual and non-visual clues, reading people, knowing what areas of a city to avoid, and who to talk to get advice.
    • An article by Jim Powell at the Cato Institute on lessons learned from mass murder events and how to survive them. The basic fact is that when seconds count, police response will minutes or even hours, and so you will be responsible for your survival. He offers up some good tips even if you are unarmed.
    • Greg mentions that he is reading Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis by Jared Diamond. I found Diamond's first book, Guns, Germs and Steel to be extremely flawed (incorrect facts and poor reasoning) and was unimpressed by another of his books I tried to read (I forget the title), so I will probably be skipping this one.
    • He includes an article on whether you should clear a house on your own and, to summarize the article, DON'T. Unfortunately, as even the author acknowledges, there are going to be instances where you will investigate a noise or you have loved ones in danger. Greg mentions that he is going to be teaching a class on the topic.
    • A video and article from Lucky Gunner on the "underwear gun" and they are not being facetious. Basically, the idea is a gun so small and convenient to carry that you could carry it in your underwear so that you will actually have no reason to go unarmed around your home.
    • You know (or should know) Farnam's rules of self-protection. Well, add Dave Spaulding's rules of conflict.
    • A video on how to perform the rear naked choke hold. It is one of the most basic things to learn in martial arts. But also learn how to get out of one as well.
    • An article on treating penetrating chest wounds, which is essentially an article on using chest seals. Have at least two.
    • An article on why its important to have full sets of night sights. Plain black rear sights paired with a tritium front sight are fine for the range, the author writes, but if it is very dark you won't be able to align the front sight with the rear sight.
