Terrorist Attack In Fargo, ND?

As you may or may not have heard, this past Friday, a man in Fargo, North Dakota, ambushed officers responding to a report of an auto accident. One of the officers was killed, as was the attacker. Two other officers were critically wounded. The Western Journal reports:

When Jake Wallin returned from duty in Afghanistan, he wanted to continue a life of service that made a difference. He was just beginning that life as a Fargo, North Dakota, police officer, when he was gunned down Friday in what a witness said appeared to be an ambush.

Officers Andrew Dotas, and Tyler Hawes were wounded in the incident. Both were listed in critical condition. Officer Zach Robinson returned fire, killing the suspected gunman, identified as Mohamad Barakat, 37, according to KFYR-TV.

At the time, police had responded to a report of a routine car accident.

Witness Chenoa Peterson. Said the attack appeared to her to be an ambush, according to The Associated Press.

She said Barakat was at the back of a car in a parking lot near the crash and opened fire when the officers were about 20 feet away.

“He was holding up the trunk of the car with his arm, and then I see the gun come up, and he set it on his shoulder and just pointed it directly at an officer in front of him. It was like 10 shots right away,” she said.

The officers were not looking in the direction of the attack, she said.

The article goes on to report that "[i]n addition to the officers, a  25-year-old woman was shot. A fire truck was also hit by gunfire, Zibolski said, according to KCRA-TV, which compiled its report from various dispatches." As for the motive, "Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski said police do not know why Barakat opened fire."

Robert Spencer at PJ Media has a hypothesis, however. Given the Muslim name of the attacker (a 100% Mohammad factor), Spencer observes that "[o]ne of the most obvious possibilities, however, is being steadfastly ignored, as one might expect given today’s media narrative." And while the FBI has been called, Spencer doesn't believe them to be capable of figuring out the motive, either, because "the feds are now far more interested in finding 'domestic terrorists' at school board meetings and Catholic churches than in hunting down actual terrorists[.]". He concludes:

FBI agents today would likely not recognize an Islamic jihadist if he stood behind a car and started shooting at them, but Mohamad Barakat may have been one. There is no indication that anyone is looking into this possibility, but it would provide an immediate explanation for the details of the case.

  1. I would agree as to the jihadi aspect. And please consider how many thousands more like him are out there.

    1. The potential jihadi connection is certainly awkward for the Left. That this story was almost immediately memory holed without it being used to push for gun control seems almost to be confirmation that this was an Islamic terrorist attack.
