The Five Most Dangerous American Cities Based On Violent Crime Rates

The Daily Mail reports that the top five are:

  1. Birmingham, Alabama. "The violent crime rate in Birmingham was 1,682, while the property crime rate was 4,173 per 100,000 residents. The city also had the highest cost of crime per capita - $11,392".
  2. New Orleans, Louisiana. It has "a violent crime rate of 1,444 and a property crime rate of 4,641. The crime cost per capita was $11,094."
  3. St. Louis, Missouri. It has "a 1,472 violent crime rate and a 7,254 property crime rate. The city's crime cost per capita was only a few dollars away from its predecessor - at $11,055."
  4. Detroit, Michigan, with "a 2,028 violent crime rate, a 4,478 property crime rate [per 100,000] and a $9,281 crime cost per capita."
  5. Memphis, Tennessee with "a 2,421 violent crime rate and a 7,166 property crime rate [per 100,000]. It also has only a $9,056 crime cost per capita."
On the other end of the spectrum, Thousand Oaks, California, was the safest under this analysis. I wonder if there is a common demographic to the five most violent that is missing from the the safest city? (Who am I kidding--I looked up the demographics and, yes, there is).

  1. Demographics + Democrat led. In these cases the crime problem can be tried directly to race (black) and politics (Democrat controlled city).

    1. My wife is going to be attending a convention in Detroit next year. I will probably be sick with worry the entire time she is there.
